Dolce and Gabbana are one of my favourite brands, especially when it comes to shirts. In the past I’ve bought a number of their plain black and white shirts, there’s just something about their styling and the fit which looks luxurious. As AW is truly upon us I thought it was time to move away from buying as many t-shirts and try to find some long sleeved shirt options.

Denim shirts are still quite a new concept to me. I was always led to believe that they were a bit tacky and only really worn by Wild West cowboys types (ok maybe I’m exaggerating a little) until last Christmas when I bought a +People camo denim shirt which I really liked. The key to wearing denim shirts is just to make sure you wear different tones or colours, that way it doesn’t look like you belong at a rodeo.

I was on the lookout for a faded black denim shirt and I came across this D&G shirt on Farfetch – I usually wear size 39 in D&G, but because the sizing on the website showed the model wearing a 40, and it looked slightly oversized in styling, I decided to order a size 40. It arrived nicely packed and as it is brushed denim the material is very soft to touch. The fit is just right and the shirt looks great, with beautiful detailing around the shoulders and pearled effect/tigers eye press stud buttons down the front. For a more relaxed look, wear it with the top button undone or if you want to dress it up, do up the top button for a sleeker appearance. It wasn’t cheap, retailing at around £350 but what I find is that like jeans, denim shirts will last the duration (probably a few years) still keeping its shape, making it a great investment. The only slight negative, the distressing on the chest – to make the shirt look vintage/preloved it has some fake rips and light brown stains. I personally think it would look better without, but overall a lovely shirt, very happy!
