I like hi-tops, in fact 90% of the shoes I own are probably one form of hi-top or another. Over the last year I’ve bought a number of different hi-top trainers – some really nice Golden Goose ones but they look very casual. So casual that one of my friends genuinely thought they were an old pair of trainers from when I was at school (14 years ago) – so I guess there must be some credit there to the look!

Anyway, I’ve had nothing that really goes with black jeans or trousers and was looking for a smarter leather pair. Lanvin is a brand I’ve seen for a while now and really admired for footwear but never really thought of buying as hi-tops usually start at around £400. Last month I decided to take the plunge and buy a black leather hi-top from, which you can see below:

What you notice when you buy a pair of Lanvin is that they come in their trademark light blue box, inside a well wrapped package with tissue paper separating the shoes. What I noticed immediately was how heavy they were, much heavier than anything I’ve owned before and the detail in the leather looked excellent. Another detail which really sets these shoes apart from others is the trademark rim on the bottom front, rather than just keeping them white the sole colour blends upwards. I am a size 9 usually and ordered a size 9 but these were actually probably one size too large so anyone thinking of buying something similar take that into consideration – I fixed the problem with an inner-sole and an extra pair of socks.
