Nike are certainly ending 2017 on a high note; their series of international workshops in collaboration with Vigil Abloh gained huge press coverage as did his collaboration collection. While the Pharrell Williams and Kanye West collaborations with adidas were topics of most conversations in the sneaker world in AW17 this Travis Scott x AF1 low slipped in under the radar of most.
I managed to get lucky through the Sneakerstuff Raffle and picked them up from their Shoreditch high-street store in London. What initially attracted me to these shoes was the metallic swoosh on the side which I thought looked a little more high end than the usual AF1s. On inspection there’s so much more as to why these Travis Scott AF1’s are such a great sneaker.
Besides coming with the metallic swoosh they also come with 2 other interchangeable styles which attach to the side with Velcro (see photo below on what they look like) making the look versatile for different occasions. The stitching on the upper comes with a cream coloured material which allows you to see the silhouette of the pannels much more clearly. The gum sole is a great match with the white / cream and smaller unnoticed detailed such as the small stitched logo near the laces and the upside down logo on the heel just make it feel special. The sizing is true to fit (Nike’s always seem to be that way) so I went with a UK 9 which was just right and they are very comfortable.
The Travis Scott x AF1’s look simply amazing in real life and I would encourage you all to get a pair while you still can, they will certainly become one for collectors and I can imagine Travis Scott collaborating with Nike again on some different styles.
