Every now and then the persistence of entering raffles and giveaways pays off, for me it did this last weekend. The hotly anticipated Nike collaboration with Virgil Abloh and his Off-White label is the biggest hype of 2017 by far, surpassing the Yeezy’s V2’s. Last week I saw a link on Twitter from Nike advertising a series of workshops in celebration of the Off White x Nike launch. I signed up to a “Remix & Reconstruct” workshop hosted by Rick Owens wife Michele Lamy in Shoreditch London.
I received my confirmation while away in Portugal and luckily I was back in time for the event. The day comprised of queuing outside the NikeLab in Shoreditch for a “student” ID and then making our way to a very cool hidden location in the heart of East London. After a 10 minute we arrived at the pop up location and one in we were surrounded by a host of models, designers and sneakerheads – I met a group of students, buyers and stylists who all seemed hyped to get creative.
We were given a quick briefing by Michele Lamy who appeared in her iconic black makeup and we were sent on our way – 2 hours to customise one Air Force 1 white sneaker, however we liked. Being an Off White event I got my inspiration from Virgil and went with a metallic look and feel. After the creating we were allowed back to the NikeLab to buy a pair of the much sought after “Ten Icons Reconstructed” (see image below) – unfortunately most of them were sold out by the time I arrived but I did manage to cop a pair of Off White X Nike Air Max 90’s, which I will review soon.
This was such an awesome event and feel very lucky to be part of the day, if you ever get the chance to attend anything like this then it is totally worth entering competitions. Enjoy my photos from the day below:
