While Kanye is currently receiving a lot of press at the moment around his behaviour I’m here to talk about his sneakers. New silhouette for me, the Yeezy 500 Desert Rat in the blush colourway. Like I mentioned in my Waver Runner review I tend to go through the “Kanye Appreciation Cycle” of generally disliking his new styles but then falling in love with them over time. With the Desert Rats I was generally OK with the design (I’m not sure Kanye can shock me any more to be honest) – I decided to wait and cast judgement once I owned a pair.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to cop during launch, even though there were tens of thousands available in Europe so I had to wait until the resellers hit eBay. Surprisingly the resell price wasn’t too high (I paid £215). The Yeezy 500 Desert Rats come in the traditional Yeezy Boost brown box but this time there is no boost! The sneaker comes with the “adiPrene” outsole technology which is not spongy and apparently leaves no marks on floors (how I do not know).
The fit is true to size unlike many other Yeezy Boosts so buy whatever you would get normally. In terms of comfort these Yeezy 500’s is nice, very different from the 350 and 700’s and much heavier than both too but it definitely feels like a solid piece of footwear. They look great, very chunky and match well with most jeans and track bottoms in this particular colourway. I’m not sure these will ever reach the popularity heights of the 350 or even the 700’s but they are a nice mid-range sneaker that offers an alternative look.
